I had tweeted you last week (@The_Bootlegger) seeing about getting a copy of your new live set to share with my listeners. I’d emailed your contact up above, but wanted to drop a line here as well, just in case.
I saw you join Gov’t Mule back in June, and have since researched Soulgrass – I love what you guys bring to the table, and I look forward to sharing your new set with my listeners.
Thanks for your time,
Will U be in New Orleans for Jazz Fest at the end of this month?
Heya Mike –
I don’t think so. Keep an eye on the tour dates page (http://www.billevanssax.com/tour/) – but as of right now, won’t be there… Cheers!
A great concert. Thanks for it. Buddy would be a pride about this funky version of “Them Changes”. I had a lot of fun in this evening. All the best for the next gigs.
Hey Bill and the guys!

Hey Bill. I was browsing Ebay for a Mark VI and I came across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/161339218034?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&fromMakeTrack=true
I was curious if this was actually you and if so, why you are selling this tenor?
Hi Bill Evans, I finally got a chance to see you LIVE and in meet you. I would like to thank you for playing at the Detroit Jazz Festival on monday.
I will be watching for more appearance in the States and anywhere close to Detroit. I will continue to search for more of your recording, Really glad that I did not have to make trip oversea to finally watch a live session. Been listening to your saxophone style since the Element group recordings.
Bill, caught you guys at the Ardmore Music Hall last night. absolutely mind blowing. and you made a lot of new fans last night. every place I walked people were saying stuff like, have you heard them before, they are unbelievable. great band, great songs, great sound… and of course one of the masters of the sax … thanks for a great night
I also saw you at Ardmore Music Hall… Ardmore, PA… come back… and get a gig at the River Street Jazz Cafe in Wilkes-Barre, PA… you will be well received!! Thank you for a great night!!!
Hi Bill! I would like to ask you, what equipment /microphone/ do you used for your soprano saxophone for live performing? This information will be very usefull for one member of our band, the best saxophone player in our country /Slovakia/, Milo Suchomel. Thank you very much!
Terrific show @ The Ardmore Music Hall on the 13th. I was recording in the back and just uploaded the show to the LMA. Many thanks!
Buckster you are one cool cat! Sounds so good I put it on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/billevanssax/posts/842782559088271. I’m going to have my media guy reach out to you so you’re on the guest list the next time we play near you.
Bill – wow, thank you so much for your kindness! I’m thrilled you found the finished recording decent enough to pass along; that’s my reward right there. (And thanks for backing me up with my wife and kids that the old man is still one cool cat; they just don’t believe me when I tell them!) Again, many, many thanks, I deeply appreciate it. I look forward to seeing you guys again! ~Dennis, aka buckster.
This is Jennifer Andrews now Jennifer Noble. I live in London (since getting married 3 years ago) and would like to come and photograph and maybe write up your London gig at Ronnie Scott’s in November. You might remember me from band. I was third chair while you were always first chair. We were in band together from seventh grade thru sophomore year. Since then, I have gone on to become a respected music photographer throughout the world with a focus on blues and soul music. My husband Glenn is an occasional music writer. I think it would be fun to say hello. And also provide you with some great photos at a legendary venue in London. (I do a little HD video also) Congratulations on all your success but us band members knew that in seventh grade at Hinsdale Junior High you would travel the world. I was always curious about your success so I would stop in the Country House now and then and ask Stan about you. He would always say he is doing well and living in New York. Anyway let me know your thoughts about us covering your show. Cheers!
Sorry to let you know Bill, but Your Soulgrass Concert @ Garcias Never showed up on Phoncert (Did Not Work) It showed Live but did not have any feed
wondering how i could get the setlist for munckmusic release. it is from the 2013 peach music festival.
i have purchased the show but they do not know the tracks.
ps the show is spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!
please let me know…….
I was recently introduced to “Soul Insider” and now I’m a huge fan. I have 2 questions. Will your tour include any performances in Northern California? In particular the San Jose Jazz Festival which is held the 2nd weekend in August? I’m looking forward to enjoying some of your more recent work.
Wanted to personally thank you for publishing, “The Language of Improvisation.” I’m having a ton of fun with it on guitar. As I work through it, all I can think is, this Bill Evan’s has a ton of personality! Quite refreshing.
Saw you at the gym today. I’m going to refrain from leaving you a disc. You get too many, and I see you are making very energized and wonderfully funky sounds, “rising above.” The disc I had in mind is very ECM cool and European laid back, not at all what you’re doing. In the unlikely event you’re interested in the saxophonist, he is Trygve Seim. The recording is Jacob Young’s “Forever Young.”
Is Becky still around? If so tell her Randy said “hello”. I knew her when she was office manager of a prestigious auto restoration shop in Corte Madera, Ca. I worked for an Auto Museum in Petaluma. I have since retired and relocated to the Oklahoma City area. Would love to see you tomorrow in Norman, unfortunately a prior “can’t get out of” commitment is in the way.
Love your music.
Bill: I’ll be a first timer at RRR coming up in August. I am very much looking forward to listening and hopefully working with you a bit during the week. I’ve been playing tenor for a couple of years but after just now enrolling in your Language of Improvisation, realize that my limited knowledge/use of scales except for the blues and pentatonic have been an hinderance to my development. So when I listen to what you can produce on the same instrument, I am the same time incredibly jealous while being incredibly frustrated at how far I must travel in time and practice to get anywhere close to being one tenth as good as you playing my horn. Despite that, I am very much looking forward to meeting you, and starting my journey using your bebop techniques and learning insights. See you in a couple of weeks! Lance
Hé Bill , Comment ça va ??????????
Si longtemps déjà…j’espère que j’aurai de tes nouvelles avant d’être définitivement une vieille femme!
Le mielleur pour toi et bonne continuation.
Gabriella ( Bruxelles)
Where can I buy the Bill Evans Soulgrass album “Live in Moscow” as a CD? (…not mp3)
I am a fan from Germany and I have all the other Bill Evans CDs (20 CDs from the very old “Moods Unlimited” up to “Dragonfly”).
–> I need “Live in Moscow”, too :-)
Hi, Bill! You’re very cool saxophonist!
Hey, Bill. Meeting you and your Soulgrass band, and listening to you play in Yoshkar-Ola and Cheboksary cities in Russia was the best musical impression for me this year. Happy holidays and Happy New Year!
Hi Bill. You have some sound clip or video with the new mouthpiece signature ? Is very expensive and I appreciate if you make a video compares both the original and this. Thanks
Thank you again for rocking the house at Birdland this past Friday! Really thankful to be able to experience that level of musicianship. Let me know when we can schedule a lesson before you ship out to Europe man!
Be Very Well.
Bill…Wanted to be sure you saw my review of Rise Above as it was posted on-line today at Glide Magazine: http://www.glidemagazine.com/169686/bill-evans-jams-allman-haynes-cinninger-benevento-russo-rise-album-review/
I must take the opportunity to say how much I have admired and enjoyed your playing in recent years with The Allman Bros & Gov’t Mule!

This is a voice from the past……
Think back to around 1974….
Private lessons in Clarendon Hills, with Dick Kress.
…and…..recruiting you to play in the RIck Lapka Big Band…rehearsals in his basement in Bellwood…..playing Buddy Rich tunes….
You were about 15 or 16 at that time.
Haaaaaa…I remember being blown away at how great you were at that time…..
I knew you would be very successful as a musician….
Glad to see I was right……
Chris here, the concert photojournalist, I’ve requested a phone interview slot after your awesome gig in Gazarte/Athens-Greece
As mentioned, here is my e-mail address for you to tell me any date/time proposal convenient to you from next Wednesday December 1st
Thanks in advance
Hi Bill, JL from France
I attended your concert at the end of July at the Toulon jazz festival (south of France) for a wonderful time despite the unexpected absence of Mike Stern.
I just bought the lp Rise Above but I do not find the musical themes I heard that night.
I remember one or two songs at the concert while on the lp there are only songs.
Attention, I find the album excellent but I would like to hear again the themes of this beautiful concert.
Thanks for your answer
Dear Mr. Evans,
I’m the mouthpiece maker contacted you on ebay last week and you let me reply here. Hope everything goes well with you.
It’s very excited for me that you are going to arrive Beijing this weekend. I will see my hero’s playing face to face!
I want to have a meeting about three things,
1. I have a saxophone shop in Beijing and all the local professional players come to our shop, welcome to visit this weekend, I know you are making your singature serie mouthpiece, so I want to see if I could sell them in my shop.
2. I make high quality handmade mouthpieces, I’m a huge Guardala fan and listen to you and Michael Brecker’s sound, so I make a special model with your sound in mind, I want to introduce it to you and see if you like it. Dave Liebman, Kirk Whalum all tried the mouthpiece but I think you can sound it to the best direction on this mouthpiece.
3.If you like the mouthpiece and my work, could we make some further cooperation? I can make precision CNC mouthpiece and can offer you better blanks for your 1AO tenor mouthpiece or other models.
I will come to see your perfomance this weekend, hope to see you! How could I contact you when you are in Beijing? Thank you very much Mr.Evans!
