Learn from Bill Evans.

My main inspiration for creating these videos is to take the “myth“ out of learning how to play Jazz.

Have you ever asked yourself “What is improvisation all about? How can I say more on my instrument? Where do I start?”

I break these questions down to their simplest form, so you will understand these concepts CLEARLY. No more thoughts like “this is too hard“ or “I have no idea how to approach this“

If you have a basic understand of your instrument, I’ll show you how to say more on it by learning a basic language, which eventually will allow you to be YOU when you improvise.

There is a reason why rock stars have chosen Jazz musicians to play with them time and time again. Why? It’s because Jazz musicians can say so much more on their instruments. That’s what it’s all about. The more you can say on your instrument the more fun it is. While playing with Miles Davis, he always told me stories about himself with all the Jazz greats he played with and those that played with him. It was always about saying more. Being more versatile. When you can become proficient at playing jazz, you can improvise on any style of music! Rock, blues, soul, bebop… you name it .

It allows you to be YOU and it’s an awesome feeling! The journey will constantly challenge you, and that’s the beauty of it.

Guitar players throughout the years (I am serious guitar fan) have always said they like to listen to saxophone players lines. I’m fortunate to have had the chance to play with some phenomenal guitar players (John McLaughlin, Steve Lukather, Mike Stern, Mitch Stein, Derek Trucks etc). I thought it would be fun to make a video with some lines that I felt guitar players would love to play, and pass them on to you. My good friend Mike Stern joined me in the studio to play 30 sax licks I wrote especially for guitar. From those 30 lines, you can turn them into hundreds of lines because there are so many ways to re-arrange them.
